Local Attractions

Fredericton is the capital of New Brunswick in eastern Canada, on the St. John River. It’s known for its Historic Garrison District, an 18th-century British army base now home to a Changing of the Guard ceremony, artists’ studios, and an outdoor theatre. The Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s Canadian and international collections are nearby. The Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market sells seasonal produce and crafts. Fredericton is known as the “Craft Beer Capital,” with one of the best craft beer selections on the East Coast.

The Fredericton Trail system is one of the city’s crown jewels! A network of over 120 km meanders along the beautiful St. John River, countless streams, and tranquil wooded paths that allow you to get back to nature.  Whether you are a mountain bike enthusiast, walker, runner, or skier, the Fredericton trail system provides an escape just steps away from downtown.

This Nature Park is a habitat for waterfowl, wildlife, flora and fauna, and many wetland plants. Stop and look at the interpretive kiosks describing a wetland and its inhabitants

New Brunswick offers a ride through old-school trails of rocks and roots, challenging terrain surrounded by trees, ferns, and moss; and with climbs for spectacular views of the picture province.

One of Canada’s Best Old-Growth Forests Odell Park is a 333-acre, year-round park within the heart of Fredericton. There is 16 km of trails winding their way through a varied forest. Some of the trees in the park are more than 400 years old!

Geocaching is a tourism activity and the perfect way to explore the roads less traveled, enjoy scenic views and of course, experience the great outdoors any time of year! Think of it as an exciting treasure hunt - all you need is a map, GPSr (global positioning satellite receiver) unit, and a sense of adventure!

Twenty-seven km from Fredericton's downtown, you can get the family outdoors and active, and enjoy one of Mactaquac Provincial Park's many family fun activities, including the Great Canadian Beaver Pond Voyage, multi-use trails, 18 hole golf course, campground, or cool off and relax at the beach.

The Garrison Night Market showcases the diversity of Fredericton and the surrounding area featuring local and imported handmade products, art a variety of local artisan, culinary and musical talent. Located approximately 25 km from uptown Fredericton in Oromocto, at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown. The museum has exhibits, programs, and activities to display, present, and interpret the military history of the Canadian Army, the Royal Canadian Navy, and the Royal Canadian Air Force, with an emphasis on illustrating the history and heritage of the military forces in New Brunswick, and of New Brunswickers at war, during peacetime, and on United Nations/NATO duty.
